An Uncomfortable Conversation about Prosperity gospel 2 (why should we serve God?)
If following Jesus isn't primarily about improvement, upgrade, or breakthrough, then what exactly are we signing up for?
It's a fair question. And it deserves a thoughtful answer.
The Scriptures gives us fascinating glimpses into the lives of those whom God blessed abundantly.
Consider these three men:
Daniel rose to unprecedented heights in a foreign empire, displaying wisdom ten times greater than all the wise men of Babylon.
Solomon accumulated wealth that made him the richest king of his era, with gold flowing like water and wisdom sought by queens from distant lands.
Abraham became so prosperous that e could fight kingdoms as one man and actually win.
What could such men have done to make them bless them so much?
what did they say to God?
2 weeks to your exam you're crying, “The Excellent spirit as it was upon Daniel”
The Bible doesn't record Daniel praying for Excellence. In fact it doesn't record that any of them asked for the blessings that they had.
These men followed God for who he was.
They did crazy things because they loved God. God was their reward when they started out with him and so they didn't have to ask for a blessing.
They didn't follow 7 laws. They just walked with God right into all that he had in store for them.
Their prosperity wasn't the destination—it was the overflow of pursuing something greater.
This brings us to a crucial tension in Scripture. James clearly states, "You do not have because you do not ask" (James 4:2).
The problem isn't in the asking, it's in the motivation behind the request.
When we approach God primarily as a means to an end, we've subtly shifted from worship to transaction. We've moved from relationship to religious commerce.
The invitation remains the same as it was for Abraham, Solomon, and Daniel: Come and follow.
Not for the bread He gives, but for the Bread of Life He is. Let the Lord be your reward, Love him more than all the things you see.
We serve God because he's God and we love him not because he can bless us. This my friend is the biggest secret of lasting in God.
That's what 100 days of Discipleship by Pastor Iren was about today too.😂
Ayo, do you really love the Lord??
Shalom.
